Talkies

Talkies follows the story of Penny Schwartz, a newcomer to Hollywood hoping to try her luck in the emerging film industry.

Directed by Mia Hannah Nicolaides.

Talkies takes place in Hollywood in the roaring 1920’s and 1930’s when silent films were starting to lose ground to films with spoken dialogue (talkies). The story follows the adventures of Penny Miller as she arrives in town trying to make it big in showbiz, set in a backdrop of prohibition, the great depression and the social themes of the time.

This production will be a celebration of local talent showing the best acting, singing and dancing the county has to offer and at its core Talkie is a love story between people and the industry and lifestyle they become addicted to. It’s the tale of following your dreams, the dangers and risks of achievement and rejection and ultimately, being true to yourself.

Further auditions will take place over Christmas and into early January so if you are unable to make auditions or know anyone who might be interested, please do encourage them to come along. We have a wide variety of roles from focused dancers, actors with no singing to ones that encompass all three. The ages given below are ‘playing ages’ i.e. what you could potentially made to look like, but please don’t let them put you off! Unless stated otherwise American accents are desirable.
