New Voices

"After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world." - Philip Pullman.

As our theatre company approached it's first year in being, we took a step back at the plays and material we were using and how we could improve as a performing arts group. Our focus was on retelling the classics in an accessible way to bring them to life for our audiences. As we looked ahead to the future we decided to venture into modern and contemporary plays and build an element of theatre in education.

Our next step was the desire to create a platform that encouraged and supported new creative writing in Northants, which would hopefully produce material for C&D to take to stage. The scheme would encourage workshops and close collaboration between the theatre company and aspiring playwrights and authors, including rehearsed readings of the material and actor feedback. New Voices was the answer.

One of the goals of the sceme is to create a series of locally written short plays which can be performed at a specifically created one-act festival in Kettering. Not only would it allow the writers to see their material come to life, but also give our actors the chance to play a role for the first time and flesh the character out, occupying an important role within the creation of the piece.

New Voices is open to people of all ages who have a desire for storytelling and harbour the desire to see their stories come to life and sees us working with schools throughout Northants to provide their creative students with an avenue to pursue their ambitions. Anyone interested in the scheme can get in touch via our Contact page.

The Team

Our theatre company wouldn’t be here without the hard work and dedication of the people who work behind the scenes, during rehearsals and show weeks. We strive to create a welcoming and fun environment for those actors, performers and creatives that are part of our productions and the excellent retention rate of people is a testament to our team. There are many people who have and continue to help us and here is a selection of them.

Youth Theatre

Our Youth Theatre Company is the fastest growing part of the theatre group, helped by the many performing opportunities we afford to our youngsters across Northants. The performers come from all across the county, including Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough and Northampton. They have a variety of backgrounds from those interested in peforming arts and drama at school, to those with a musical theatre interest wanting to improve their stagecraft.

Musical Theatre

Musical theatre at youth and adult levels in Kettering, Northants, which features open auditions, experienced production teams and low cost committments. Onyx Performing Arts strives to allow access for all and is opposed to the high costs many groups impose. Instead the musical theatre group has princple and ensemble rates and is open to anyone regarding of experience from the ages of 5yrs+

What People Are Saying...

C&D is so wonderful because it works for and within our community; it's inclusivity allows theatre to reach people from all works of life, something that is so important in the modern day.
Rachel Coleman, 17.
I first came to C&D Productions as photographer for their performance of Dorian Gray in February 2015 and have been back for every production since then! It has been great for me in terms of my work but has more recently also given me a platform to branch out a little into other creative processes behind the scenes of theatre, which is fantastic.
Theresa Haworth, 29
I'd given up on the prospect of ever getting back on a stage after having not done anything performing arts related in more than 20 years, but I was attracted to C&D Productions as they staged quality classic plays that I preferred to act in as a drama student. I was really nervous as I was so out of practice but soon felt right at home. I am now one of a mixed bunch of members comprising all ages and abilities and I take great pride in being part of an all-inclusive company.
Roxanne, 42.
C&D has completely changed my life for the better because the company put on brilliant productions and i have worked with the best actors and directors as well. This company is going from strength to strength and i can only see improvements!
Owen, 20.
C&D have really given me a lot of self-confidence and that is down to the team in placing running it and the fantastic casts I've been part of.
Justin, 32.
It has been lovely to see the amount of different people getting involved with the theatre company over the last few months, both on stage and backstage. Everyone, cast and crew, pulls together to get a production up and running, and the team is like one big family that everyone feels a part of - no one is left out.
Theresa Haworth, 29
C&D Productions are an incredibly friendly group of people, I feel I have found a second family. I have enjoyed working with them more than any other social activities and always look forward to the next show!

Macbeth Trailer

One of our trailer for last year's Brighton Fringe, during which we took Macbeth to the Rialto Theatre. The production was very well received by audiences with a sell-out run which also saw local schools taking in performances of one of Shakespeare's greatest tragedies.
